Use the past continuous to express what was happening when something important happened.

Use o Past Continuous para expressar o que estava acontecendo quando algo importante aconteceu.

This form is almost always used with the time clause '... when xyz happened'.

Esta forma é quase sempre usada com a frase de tempo "... quando xyz aconteceu".

It is also possible to use this form with '... while something was happening' to express two past actions that were occurring simultaneously.

É também possível utilizar esta forma com '... enquanto algo estava acontecendo" para expressar duas ações passadas que estavam ocorrendo simultaneamente.

This tense is often used with the following time expressions:
